CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!
Generation Earth turns 10!
10 years ago seven young people answered the call from WWF Austria that they were searching for motivated and passionate teens who wanted to “make a difference” and help create a new chapter in WWF’s long history of educational programs. Sounds like Generation Earth right?
The story continues when they came up with a name, a mission and a vision, which basically hasn’t changed in the last 10 years:
Creating a fair and sustainable world and being a colorful network of young people who inspire, motivate, educate and take action for the future of our planet.
The following years were full of exact those things: education, action and most of all: MOTIVATION! We wouldn’t be able to achieve all those things in the past 10 years if it weren’t for the most awesome community. The people of Generation Earth are always there for eachother and are never afraid of challenges.
This leads us to where we are now. The network is growing and it’s spreading it’s seeds also outside of Austria. But one thing will always be the same:
fighting for what is important to us – the future of our planet.

Although it was 10 years ago, I can remember it like was yesterday: the very first meeting, when 7 Austrian youth joined myself and other WWF staff to dream big and brainstorm what would become the cornerstones of Generation Earth. Together, we laid out the values, the vision and mission, they designed the logo, and not only that but we became a strong community of friends – many of whom I still have close contact. Many “generations” later, I am filled with powerful memories and stories of amazing young people who I have had the honor to cross paths with…to share moments around a campfire telling stories and sharing deeply, to inspire and get inspired, to learn and discover, to connect with nature, one another and ourselves and so much more.
How many great journeys we have been on together! While Generation Earth has grown and changed in so many positive ways, it still embodies so many of the values and ideals that were set long ago: empower meaningfully, listen deeply, support endlessly, and be the change you want to see. Here’s to another great decade of inspiration and growth.Nathan Spees
