Generation Earth cleans up the Donauinsel!

On 17.09.22 the organization “Let’s Do It World” called for the World Clean Up Day and we from Generation Earth took part.

Equipped with grabbers, garbage bags and gloves we met in the evening hours at the U6 Donauinsel. The first stop was near the subway station, from where we continued towards the Danube shore, always keeping our heads to the ground to collect as much as possible. Cans, cigarette butts, handkerchiefs…well hidden behind bushes or stones, but sometimes just left directly on the bank, it was frightening how quickly one’s trash bag was full in just a short time.

The history of the World Clean Up Day

It all started in 2008, when 50,000 people in Estonia decided to get together and clean up the whole of Estonia in just 5 hours. On that day, a global citizens’ movement was born that spread around the globe. By now, there are partner organizations in several countries that organize CleanUps in the regions.
