WE HAVE THE BEST NEWS!

Generation Earth can be happy about not one, but even 2 “Austrian Youth Awards” this year! The annual prize, which is awarded by the Federal Chancellery (Section VI – Family and Youth) in various categories, goes this year to the Action Leader Training and the Action Project “BiodiverCITY”. We asked the BiodiverCITY project team for a summary and some personal words about their project as well as the Action Leader Training.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Bringing the garden to the people – that was our motto on our 2-week bicycle tour through Vienna. Equipped with plants and a vertical bed, we put this into practice this July. We pulled our cargo bike trailer to 5 different green locations and invited to workshops about biodiversity. Speakers from Herbios, the Permaculture Academy in the Alps, the Austrian Butterfly Conservation, City Nature and Generation Earth showed different ways to promote biodiversity in their own environment – even in small spaces in the city. After the workshops, there was a spontaneous exchange between the 10 participants. Contacts were made, ideas were forged. We leave the project with a lot of new knowledge, new contacts and above all new inspiration and experience. Even if the weather did not always play along – to put it in the words of one participant: Pulling a green edible cargo bike was a utopia come true.

1st day of the 3rd Training, we gathered together and caught up on what had happened over the last few months!

I will never forget driving through Vienna with our mobile garden, it was like a utopia come true.

I’m happy that despite the COVID situation, we were able to have an interactive and connecting Action Leader training.
